Police Records

Contact the Police Department’s Records Bureau to request police reports and other police records—including letters of good standing, collision reports, booking photos, and more.

View or request records through NextRequest or Records Online

You may obtain a copy of a police crime/incident report or other police records through the Department's Records Unit.

In order to make a request for a police report/incident, you will need to include the following to assist us in locating the record(s):

  • Case Number of the incident (if you know it)
  • Date or date range, Time, and Location of the incident, and
  • a description of the record you are searching for

Additionally, if you are submitting a request through NextRequest online portal we will need a way to contact you. While you are not required to provide us with your email address to make a request, please consider providing us with a temporary email address so that we can more efficiently correspond with you about your request.

Many other police records, including purchases or contracts, can be found on Records Online. You may also contact the Records Bureau directly at (510) 981-5750 or policerecords@berkeleyca.gov.

  • In person: Visit the Berkeley Police Department on Mondays through Fridays, 8 am to 2 pm.
  • By mail: Send your request to the address below.
    Berkeley Police Records Bureau
2100 Martin Luther King Jr. Way
    Berkeley, CA
    94704

Please note that certain records kept by the Police Department may not be disclosed because the records are exempt from disclosure by law. For more information, see Government Code 7923.600.

Collision reports

If you were involved in a collision, you can obtain a collision report for a $10 fee.

Incident/Crime reports

Incident reports contain the victim’s statement regarding a crime. Use the NextRequest online portal to request an incident for $1.00 by mail or for $0.10 per page in person.

Criminal history printout

You may request a printout showing occasions when you were detained or arrested by the Berkeley Police Department. You cannot request a criminal history printout for someone else. The charge for this service is $5.00.

Apply for a Carrying a Concealed Weapons license

In California, individuals must have a Carrying a Concealed Weapons (CCW) license to legally carry a concealed firearm in public.  Use our CCW online portal to apply for a license.
